Family of Beers Spotlight: The Hopped-Up Storyteller

Posted June 23, 2011 By GLBeer Snob

June 21st was the official first day of summer and what better way to celebrate than with Great Lakes Brewing Company’s "hopped-up storyteller" of the family:  Lake Erie Monster.

If you are at true hophead, you know Lake Erie Monster is now available for a limited time throughout GLBC’s distribution markets. This beer is developing quite a following and is this Beer Snob’s all-time favorite brew.  Double IPAs (aka Imperial IPAs) are very strong, hoppy styles of pale ales and the exploding, bold hop flavor in our Lake Erie Monster is no exception (think of Lake Erie Monster as the much bigger brother of Commodore Perry IPA!).

This particular hoppy beer is inspired by the tall tale of the legendary monster that roams the shallow depths of Lake Erie, South Bay Bessie. Don’t let the monster scare you, but this is a beast of a brew with 9.1% ABV.  While enjoying a Lake Erie Monster this summer, pair it with steak, pork chops, aged cheese or dark chocolate. Don’t forget to visit the GLBC onsite or online Gift Shop and get geared up with Lake Erie Monster merchandise (our Lake Erie Monster bike jersey is selling like crazy!).

I invite you to sit with friends and talk about your favorite legends as you savor the flavor of Lake Erie Monster (responsibly); be sure to share your tales with us too!

PS:  Join the hashtag #LEM11 following on Twitter if you are looking for Lake Erie Monster or have spotted some in your local retailer or neighborhood bar. This beer will go quickly!

monster of a beer

Posted June 27, 2011 11:53am By Aj

What a beer...I happened upon this "monster" in my local pub, Jimmy V's in Westerville, Ohio. It was featured on tap and, as I am a fan of all GLBC brews, I was excited to enjoy the new offering. I received no warning from the bartender...this is key. Please BEWARE- in the words of Eddie Murphy: this will "kick you in the "ding-ding". Enjoy!
