Celebrate Christmas in July!

Posted July 19, 2011 By GLBeer Snob

It’s that time of year again! We are getting flooded with e-mails, phone calls, Facebook comments and Twitter posts about where fans can grab some of Great Lakes’ famous Christmas Ale. Not to worry! GLBC has made a FRESH batch of Christmas Ale to celebrate the Christmas in July/Spirit of Giving theme of our annual Burning River Fest (July 23-24 at the historic Coast Guard Station on Whiskey Island).  The Burning River Fest is the only place you can get the freshest Christmas Ale this summer – otherwise, you’ll have to wait until November!

About the Burning River Fest:  Since 2001, people from all over the Great Lakes region have come together to remember the 1969 burning of the Cuyahoga River and celebrate the renewed sense of eco-consciousness the infamous fire sparked.  Intended to raise awareness of environmental issues affecting the Great Lakes region and Cuyahoga River ecosystem, the annual Burning River Fest features educational exhibits from area environmental groups, fresh food from local farms and eateries, live music and, obviously, a special appearance by Christmas Ale!

I personally cannot wait for the festival this year. We have over 30 bands on 3 stages and some fabulous local food offerings (the list will make you hungry!). I’m especially excited to ramp up my own cooking skills and learn from the chef demonstrations conducted by local Cleveland chefs. Let’s not forget about what this festival ultimately represents – environmental awareness! We have a long list of Eco-Partners this year that want to educate our attendees on the sustainable future of our waterways. You can even win a bicycle at the Fest!!

Event proceeds benefit the Burning River Foundation, which supports local sustainability efforts that focus on water quality – over $246,000 has been awarded since the festival’s inception to groups including the Great Lakes Science Center, The Trust for Public Land, EcoWatch and many more!

This weekend is going to be HOT – and I don’t just mean the weather. Please come out and support the festival and help protect our most valuable resource – WATER! I promise you won’t be disappointed. Admission tickets are only $10/person and can be purchased online or at the admission gate. Don’t forget your ID!

Want to attend the fest this year? Well, this beer snob has two (2) tickets for Saturday and Sunday to give away! Just leave a comment below on what you loved about past Burning River Fests or why you want to attend this year. Winners will be selected randomly by 5 PM on Thursday, July 21st. E-mail MUST be included in your post to be eligible.

I have always wanted to, but never had the chance to make it to Burning River Fest. In the last couple years my fiance and I have become MUCH more environmentally aware. We've made our best efforts to buy local and organic foods, have recently been participating in our city's recycling program...and most of all....WE LOVE YOUR BEER! Christmas Ale was the beer that awoken my taste buds; it made me become an (*amateur*) connoisseur of beer. Because of it, I love to try new ones as often as possible and have a true appreciation for the process...especially when it is safe for the environment! If I need to pull in another reason why we should get the 2 free tickets....we're getting married in October! I'm thinking maybe an early wedding gift from none other than the famous Great Lakes Brewing Company??!! What could be better than THAT!? Either way...we'll see you there!

Christmas Ale of course!

Christmas Ale, Christmas Ale, Christmas Ale. For my husband's 30 birthday I got him 30 Christmas Ales. He told me that was the best gift he ever gotten. Whenever we get a night out and for a date we love to go to Great Lakes Brewery. Great food, Good people and awesome beer. You guys Rock!

Christmas Ale in July

Why I want two free tickets to the Burning River Fest.. Because you guys make the best beer I've ever tasted! But hey WHY I want it is the easy part, WHY I deserve it is much more complicated.
I'm a disabled Firefighter who's just three weeks past his third major surgery in eight years. I've spent much of that time physically unable to even attend this kind of event. During the past 8 years I've dealt with an employer that unlawfully didn't provide health care as promised, a child fighting cancer for 4 years, my wife's business going from years of solid six-figure sales to barely holding on by a string because of the economy, bankruptcy, the loss of my home, and yet I've been able to get an Associates Degree in Marketing mostly by taking classes online, my child has become a young adult working two jobs and staying on the dean's list at Kent State, and my wife has picked up a second job so we can afford to stay afloat. When I have been physically able to attend, I couldn't afford it.

Burning River Fest tickets

My dad is in town for the weekend (which is rare), and I would love to attend the fest, show him what a great city Cleveland is, and support all the local vendors and participants. The Burning River Fest is an event that shares a lot of my own values and loves as a fellow Clevelander—environmental awareness, a beautiful lake location, Midwest friendliness, live music, a good food scene and yummy local beer, of course.

WHY DO I WANT TO COME TO THE FEST THIS YEAR?

Posted July 19, 2011 1:29pm By Jim

A) I bought a 12 pack of Christmas Ale last November. Gone by Thanksgiving. I called everywhere I could think of to get more. Ended up driving 90 minutes on the Tuesday before Christmas to buy TWO cases. Gone by New Year's Day. It will NOW BE ON TAP THIS WEEKEND? I will drive two hours for it!
B) The Skinny Little Boy from Cleveland will be on stage. I want to drink your beer and steal his women!
C) GREAT CAUSE for a beer company with a social conscience.

And that my good friends is why I should have two free tickets! LOL!

Santa and the heat index!

Whatz the best way to "beat the heat" with the cool, refreshing taste of Christmas Ale in July. For years my co-workers would tell me about Christmas Ale, but I'd never remember to get some until it was too late. Got my 1st six pack for my birthday last year(11-17),been hooked since.I'll get the chance to experience my 1st burning river fest!See ya there!!

Burning River festival

I am so excited to attend this year's Burning River Festival. Cleveland is so fortunate to have the Great Lakes Brewery in their backyard and that it produces the best Christmas Ale. Great Lakes Brewing Company's Christmas Ale is for sure one of Cleveland's greatest exports--forget LBJ our Christmas Ale is enjoyed by many in various states. This is my first time attending the festival but know if it is anything like the fun evenings I have spent at brewery, I am certain this will become a summer tradition. I am anticipating a great summer evening on Lake Erie with friends and the deliciousness of Christmas Ale and what is even better it is for a good cause. Tis' the season!!

Christmas in CLE

Posted July 19, 2011 1:04pm By Jeff

I'd love to attend on Sunday I'm working all day on Saturday. Big fan of CLE and supporting the local economy which is why I drink GLBC beers. Never been to this fest so it would be nice to eat/drink/and enjoy some great music withe the fine people who make up this great city

Why I want to attend Burning River Fest

Posted July 19, 2011 1:03pm By Abigail Rode

I want to attend Burning River Fest this year because I have never been before. I just came back to Ohio from living in France, and celebrating my hometown and drinking amazing local brews sounds like the best way to celebrate a return to the Cleveland area. France does not have great microbreweries like America, so having the opportunity to sample Great Lakes brews I have not tasted yet, sounds fabulous!

I have never been to the GLBC Festval, but I am planning on making the drive up from Columbus. I am a supporter of all things CLE and I buy Great Lakes beer whenever I see it on tap. Can't wait for the wknd and seeing the CLE Skyline lit up along the big lake.

My favorite thing at Burning River Fest in the past was taking the boat tour of the Cuyahoga River and mouth of Lake Erie! I got to learn more about the area and the types of things that have been and are going on there!

Also, I loved seeing the EPA vessel. I think it's important to see them represented there!

I'm SO excited to go again this year!
