April 12, 2013—CLEVELAND, OHIO—Great Lakes Brewing Company (GLBC), Ohio’s first and most celebrated craft brewer of award-winning lagers and ales, is one of America’s top 50 breweries, based on 2012 beer sales volume calculated by The Brewers Association.
The Brewers Association, the Boulder-based not-for-profit trade group that tabulates production statistics for U.S. breweries, found GLBC to be the 19th largest craft brewery in the country and the 28th largest overall. GLBC is the only Ohio brewery represented in the rankings.
Of the top 50 overall brewing companies, 39 are small and independent craft breweries. Anheuser-Busch ranks 1st. The Brewers Association defines a craft brewer as small, independent, and traditional.
GLBC produces over 120,000 barrels of handcrafted beer annually and serves 13 states and Washington D.C. The company will celebrate its 25th anniversary on September 6, 2013 and has plans to expand production to better satisfy the needs of its current markets. Owners Pat and Dan Conway prefer increasing depth in existing markets over expanding GLBC’s overall footprint. As GLBC grows, the company will continue to foster its mission as a principle-centered, environmentally respectful, and socially conscious company committed to crafting fresh, flavorful, high quality beer and food.
