MISSION STATEMENT
The Burning River Foundation is dedicated to improving, maintaining and celebrating the vitality of our regional freshwater resources. Our vision is to establish Northeast Ohio as the recognized environmental leader dedicated to the sustainability of its high quality freshwater resources.

The Burning River Foundation embraces the following Core Values:

Established in 2007 as an outgrowth of the continued success of the Burning River Fest, we have awarded over $304,000 to local non-profit organizations such as the GreenCityBlueLake Institute, Great Lakes Science Center, Western Reserve Land Conservancy, Wendy Park Foundation, West Creek Preservation Committee and the Cuyahoga River Community Planning Organization for their work on water projects. 

Through the Burning River Fest, we have also increased public awareness about the deteriorating, yet historic, Coast Guard Station, which has resulted in a collaborative cleanup and restoration effort by non-profit, corporate and government entities. The Fest has also helped put Whiskey Island and Wendy Park on the map as a wonderful greenspace right in the heart of Cleveland’s industry (both past and present).

Burning River Foundation Announces 2011 Fresh Ideas for Freshwater Grant Winners
Area Environmental Groups Receive Funding to Demonstrate Freshwater Conservation

January 24, 2012--CLEVELAND, OHIO--Great Lakes Brewing Company’s Burning River Foundation recently awarded $58,000 in grants to support Northeast Ohio individuals and organizations that pursue ecological conservation, environmental protection and education/public involvement.  Benefiting projects work toward the sustainable future of our regional freshwater resources.  The following organizations have been selected as grant recipients for 2011:

• 5 Gyres Institute for a research project on Lake Erie, the Great Lakes Plastic Pollution Survey
• Baldwin Wallace College to install a rain harvesting system for urban gardens
• Doan Brook Watershed Partnership for the installation of three rain gardens in Ward 8 (Glenville Neighborhood)
• Drink Local, Drink Tap, Glenville Development Corporation and Tinkers Creek Watershed Partners for educational projects in Cleveland schools
• Lake Erie Boat Float for workshops and a fun family event to raise awareness about plastic pollution
• Lake Erie Waterkeeper for the establishment of a Cleveland office
• Ohio City Incorporated for pre-development work related to the redevelopment of the historic Coast Guard Station on Whiskey Island

Funding was made possible with proceeds from the 2011 Burning River Fest, the annual summer environmental event presented by Great Lakes Brewing Company at the historic Coast Guard Station on Whiskey Island.
