Burning River Fest: Good Cheer. Good Cause. Good Beer.

Posted July 11, 2013 By Marissa DeSantis

This year's Burning River Fest will take place on July 26 and 27 from 6-11PM at the historic Coast Guard Station on Whiskey Island. Tickets are on sale now at

Burning River Fest is an annual celebration of water. Why celebrate water? See that beer in your hand? Yeah, the other one that’s not resting on a mouse or a touchpad. That’s why we celebrate water, friend.

Good Cheer:

What's happening at this year's Burning River Fest? Here are some more numbers for you:

  • Over 25 bands on 3 stages. This year's Burning River Fest artist lineup includes indie festival darlings Bethesda, Winslow’s high-energy soul-rock hybrid, Brazilian jazz by Moises Borges, acoustic folk by Alexis Antes, and a funk/hip-hop/reggae set by DJMisterBradleyP.
  • Nearly a dozen fresh, local food options ranging from Hodge Podge food truck to Mitchell’s Ice Cream, plus live cooking demos from some of Cleveland’s most innovative and celebrated chefs.
  • Eco-displays, local goods, and fun activities from nearly 30 vendors and partners, including a family-friendly “Instrument Petting Zoo” hosted by Baldwin Wallace OCMEA and a performance art spectacle by Ohio Burn Unit.

Good Cause:

Here are some more numbers to wrap your head around:

  • Beer is 90% water.
  • The Great Lakes contain 80% of the nation’s, and 20% of the world’s freshwater.
  • In case you couldn’t guess from our name, we get our water from the Great Lakes.

We love water so much, that we helped establish the Burning River Foundation, a non-profit organization working to improve, maintain, and celebrate our regional freshwater resources. Since 2007, the Foundation has awarded over $320,000 to local non-profit organizations for their work on water projects. The Foundation has planned several environmentally-focused events for this year's Fest, including the second annual Corporate Boat Float, and a special presentation of the Foundation's Outstanding Environmental Leader Award.

Good Beer:

And finally, the “Good Beer” portion of the equation. We’ll offer a variety of our award-winning lagers and ales, including a fan-favorite: Christmas Ale. Every summer we brew a fresh batch of Christmas Ale exclusively for Burning River Fest. It’s the true “Christmas in July” event that you won’t want to miss.

Visit to purchase your one-day, weekend, and VIP passes, listen to music by this year’s bands and musicians, and plan your weekend.

Now, we’ve talked a lot about how we love water, but we love our fans too. So leave a comment on this blog, telling us why you love water. We’ll pick our favorite answer and send that person a pair of weekend passes* to Burning River Fest. Good Cheer. Good Cause. Good Beer. That’s what the Fest is all about!

Thank you to all of Burning River Fest's generous sponsors!

*Passes are non-transferable, and will be held at Will-Call. Burning River Fest will occur, rain or shine. All attendees MUST present valid identification if they plan to consume alcohol at Burning River Fest. Each pass admits one (1) attendee to the Fest.

Why I love water

I love water because it keeps me going. Literally. Without water, and healthy water at that, I would be dead in three days! Water is life-sustaining and necessary. I love water so much that I carry a bottle of it everywhere with me. Some people feel naked without their cell phones, I feel naked without my water.

I love so much about water! It nourishes our bodies, gets us clean, and makes up most of our earth. I especially love being around large bodies of water, like Lake Erie, because it is inspiring to look at and the sounds of the waves have such a calming effect.

And yes, I love water even more when I think about how much of it is in beer too :)

Thanks for this opportunity!

What's there not to like about water? It's in everything from ice cubs to jacuzzis, humans, and of course. . .Dortmunder :) Looking forward to the Burning River Fest!

I love water because it makes up 3 of my favorite beverages. Water, coffee, and of course beer! Lake Erie, one of the Great Lakes of America, provides the water for Great Lakes Brewing Company, one of the great beers of America!
