What's Your Ideal Summer Beer?

Posted July 10, 2014 By Marissa DeSantis

Our new 2014 Seasonal Spacewalker American Belgo hit shelves this week. Our tribute to Ohio's astronauts has a complex blend of Belgian yeast, wheat and caramel malt, and features the brand new experimental ADHA 881 hop. Spacewalker is the last of our true summer Seasonals for 2014. It’s available for a limited time in 4-packs and draft throughout our distribution markets.

Spacewalker's July release means our Great Lakes Great Summer promotion is in its last month. If you haven’t shared a GLBC-themed summer picture for a chance to win one of our awesome outdoor adventure prizes, you’ve got until July 31—get snapping! The photos in this blog come from Friends of GLBC, who entered to win at or by tagging their photos with #FriendsofGLBC on Instagram or Twitter.

Need a little help deciding which of our summer brews you should pose with? Here’s a quick quiz.

1. Cookout time! What’s on the menu?

a. Spicy grilled shrimp skewers, with fresh tropical fruit for dessert
b. Curried chicken and vegetables, with spicy carrot cake for dessert
c. Tangy fish tacos with crisp cabbage slaw, and key lime pie for dessert

2. You’re having friends over for a summer hangout. What’s the vibe?

a. Enlightened. We’re binge-watching episodes of Cosmos.
b. Wild. We’ll probably have a beer, then hit the beach or the pool.
c. Committed. I’ve got a whole day planned out. Some cornhole, a cookout, a bonfire…

3. What’s your preferred summer sporting event?

a. The World Cup. I like when sports are played at an international level.
b. X-Games. I’m all about the adrenaline rush.
c. Golf tournaments or day baseball games—something I can watch all afternoon.

4. Where’s the best place to drink a beer?

a. I have a special glass at home that enhances my beer’s aromas and flavors.
b. With my feet dangling off the end of a dock or a boat.
c. On a patio, with a light breeze blowing and an open tab.

5. What’s the worst part about summer?

a. It’s too short.
b. The heat slows me down.
c. Mowing the lawn is a pain.

Mostly A’s?
Get ready for blastoff, because your GLBC summer brew is Spacewalker American Belgo. You’re a naturally curious and passionate person with varied interests and a flair for experimentation. You love science...especially the science of brewing beer.

Mostly B’s?
You’re the extreme type, so Lake Erie Monster Imperial IPA is your summer beer. You like to grab summer by its scaly head and live every day like it’s 70 degrees and sunny. Just make sure you stay hydrated during those three-day weekends, go-getter!

Mostly C’s?
You’re in it for the long haul, with nothing but blue skies ahead. The Wright Pils is your perfect summer co-pilot. Crisp, light, and refreshing, The Wright Pils will keep you clear-eyed and flying high as you lounge, relax, and float along the lazy river of summer.

Best Summer Seasonal is Holy Moses, where did it go? Should be year around but at least be a summer seasonal. Please bring it back!

Summer Seasonals

My favorite summer seasonal is Independence Ale--which you didn't brew this year.
Been a regular GLBC fan and regular patron for 18 years. Had 20 guests in for July 4th with no real reason to travel down that weekend. No Indy Ale. Truth Justice was tapped out. No Rally Drum.
Please don't lose the identity and traditions.
