Great Lakes Brewing Company takes great pride in our exceptional family of fresh beers. Each of our beers is the freshest, highest-quality, preservative-free beer we can brew and all have a story. Throughout January and February, we encourage you to get to know the "dry, witty antagonist" of the family: Commodore Perry India Pale Ale.
The Bow Brewery in London exported this particular version of pale ale to the multitude of British soldiers, colonial administrators and settlers in India. An India pale ale's high potency and high level of attenuation reduced chances for spoilage and made it a strong candidate for shipping. We named our beer after Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, the man responsible for the American victory over the British on Lake Erie in the War of 1812. Commodore Perry's battle flag aboard the USS Niagara declared “Don’t Give Up The Ship”; in true GLBC fashion, we command that you "Don't Give Up The Sip"!
Commodore Perry IPA’s flavor is medium-bodied and well hopped with a dry, fruity finish and pairs wonderfully with spicy dishes and bold cheeses. To spotlight our Commodore Perry IPA, GLBC will offer the following specials during the months of January and February:
