Summer Catch Up!

Posted August 17, 2011 By GLBeer Snob

So we are officially in the middle of August and this summer has flown by so fast! It felt like just yesterday when I was enjoying a Lake Erie Monster on our Market Avenue patio and gearing up for our annual Burning River Fest (we drew in over 5,000 attendees and raised upwards of $100K, which will be awarded as grants to local non-profit organizations!). I’m disappointed I didn’t get to enjoy the pool much this summer, but I am truly excited about all the upcoming releases and events happening at GLBC this fall.

Let’s start with the beer. We changed up our lineup this year and will be offering Blackout Stout in November - PERFECT timing for the cold winter months.  And the shelf life on this lovely brew has increased to 270 days!

But who wants to see winter just yet? We cannot forget about Oktoberfest (now available!) and “the beer with the bite”, Nosferatu (due out in September). Don’t forget to mark your calendars for GLBC’s annual Oktoberfest (September 23-24). Guests will enjoy live music, German inspired food and most importantly...GLBC Oktoberfest beer! We’ll also feature a “keep the stein” special with a beautiful glass German stein - I cannot wait! We also recently introduced a stylish Nosferatu organic cotton hooded sweatshirt that will really make a statement while you savor this remarkably balanced brew.

Of course, we cannot overlook our beloved Christmas Ale. If you made a visit to the Brewpub recently, you probably smelled the cinnamon aromas in the air. Last year, Christmas Ale production got off to a later start because of our brewery expansion, but I am happy to report we are in full swing this year and getting ready for the release.

Besides our wonderful craft beers, we offer our customers a slew of events here at GLBC. Our next quarterly lecture series, Names Behind the Brews, will focus on Burning Rivers (four rivers in the Great Lakes Basin that caught on fire, including the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland).  We will continue our Firkin Thursdays and Kristine Jackson will be singing her bluesy tunes twice a month. Starting Tuesday, August 30th, Good Time Trivia LIVE will be in the Beer Cellar every Tuesday. Teams of up to ten (10) players will be eligible to compete weekly and win prizes. I’m competitive so watch out!

Share with us what you are most looking forward to this fall. Those who comment below will be selected randomly to win a GLBC Christmas Ale baseball cap!

Looking forward to this holiday season...

Posted September 16, 2011 1:22pm By Greg Bonk

tis the season to look forward to driving around store to store, standing in long lines at the registers, dealing with the weather and the crowds. The pushing and shoving. Paying a premium price. Calling places to see if the have any left. The disappointment of being sold out. Asking if they will have any more and when.

Not for items on my kids' christmas list, but for Great Lakes Christmas Ale.

This California transplant LOVES GLBC!

Fall is my favorite time of year and it just isn't the same living in Southern California!! We need GLBC to make it across this great nation so that all of the transplants like me can stay connected to their roots through your delicious libations. GLB tastes like home... and you truly can't appreciate the spirit for Cleveland until you leave!! Keep up the great work and I'm counting the days until I come home at Christmas and take full advantage of my seasonal favorite... Christmas Ale! xo

With increased production of Christmas Ale are you planning on shipping any out to the Pacific Northwest? I'd love to have one this Christmas in Portland!

Blackout Stout

Posted August 17, 2011 7:26pm By Mike S

Bring on the Blackout Stout! I had it when it was on tap about a month ago and that was perfect timing to hold me over until its return. I also just finished my last Christmas Ale but could smell the cinnamon right before BRF11 and all was well.

Woo hoo

Glad to see you'll be having Blackout Stout; had it this past weekend and was really impressed! I'm not usually a stout person, but it was very tasty!

I didn't share any of the Edmund Fitzgerald though!!! MINE MINE MINE!!! Wish we had this beer locally so I could have access to my to my top fav flavor (loved the other 3 I found as well) and to try the seasonal beers! Postmark that hat for FLORIDA!!!!!

I am in Nashville this summer for an internship and I was pleasantly surprised to see you guys at the Music City brewers fest. However, my GLBC stash has run dry and cannot wait to get back to Ohio to enjoy some Oktoberfest and all the other GLBC beers.

Best year of my life!

Posted August 17, 2011 3:05pm By Brian

This year was a big year in my life. I discovered craft beer. I fell in love with Christmas ale. Then I fell even harder for lake Erie monster. Now I'm addicted to octoberfest. I can't wait to try nosferatu for the first time.
I've started collecting growlers from the best brewerys in Ohio. Now I can't stop myself from driving from Columbus to the brew pub at least once a month. I had a blast at the burning river Fest. I think I drank more Xmas ale then anyone in attendance. I look forward to the octoberfest festival. I intend to make my mark there as well.
The can't wait till November for the release of Xmas ale. Last year I was only able to buy 1 six pack. This year I plan to get a jump on the competition. After that I plan to spend time lobbying anyone I can find at GLBC to make the monster a year round brew. Thanks great lakes, you have changed my life'

We visit EVERY year for our birthdays and take the tour with our friends and family.Thank you for creating quality, great tasting beer..and food! :) Keep up the awesome work!

Huzzah Beer!

The brewpub was the best part of my birthday this year! Can't wait for the Nosferatu & Christmas Ale!

Growlers galore!

Posted August 17, 2011 1:49pm By Eric

FINALLY made it to the pub and discovered I was horrendously lacking on what I previously thought was your entire selection. AHHH the pub exclusives! Even better, the growlers! Can't wait to expand on the entire family of exceptional beers!

I can't wait for the release of this years NOSFERATU!!! This is the beer, that started me on craft beers. I was blown away with it's complexity, when I ordered it on tap at a local pub. From that day fourth, my life has been consumed with finding the hoppiest IPA, darkest richest STOUTS, most complex tripels, etc. Thanks NOSFERATU, it's been a fantastic ride!!

I'd love to get my hands on some Christmas Ale. It's not easy to find up here in Michigan but thankfully my bro in law lives in Medina and get me some.

I can not wait till the tapping of christmas ale!

Between seasons

Posted August 17, 2011 1:31pm By PamW-H

Ah you mentioned my two favorite beers -- Lake Erie Monster (which is hoptasmagorical) and Christmas beer. The latter is so coveted by many friends here in Columbus that we have been known to camouflage cases of it in our local grocery store beer cooler & text each other the location...scavenger hunt & quasi-religious pilgrimage all in one.

Great Lakes

Last November I participated in the the Beer School event and it was fantastic! I can't wait to stop by again and smell the Christmas Ale brewing. Great Lakes is a great Cleveland Instition!

Chrismas Ale

Posted August 17, 2011 1:31pm By Greg Novak

Please make sure Christmas Ale makes its way up to Milwaukee!!! This is one of my favorite Holiday traditions, and I look forward to this every year now. Thankfully, my wife understands how giddy I get once I'm able to secure at least a case of this deliciousness.

It's hard to believe that the time for oktoberfest is already here! I intend to pick some up ASAP. Can't wait for christmas ale to be released. ;)

Love The Christmas Ale....But.

Posted August 17, 2011 1:22pm By M. A. Wojtowicz

Can't wait for the Christmas Ale. But the Nosferatu is one of the best beers I have had in a long time. Can't wait to make it back to Cleveland to bring some home.

Coming to Cleveland at the end of Sept for a Browns/Indians weekend. A GLB visit is at the top of the list of things to do.
