Sips, meet summer. There’s no better combination than a little bit of sunshine and a refreshing cold beer. And when it comes to choosing your favorite summer brew, it’s whatever floats your pontoon boat! But we happen to think some of our brews are especially suited for specific summer activities and moments. Read on to learn our favorite summer fun and beer pairings.

Gather ‘Round the Campfire with Midwest IPA

There’s nothing more Midwestern than a good old-fashioned road trip. Why fly when you can pack the whole family into a minivan and drive 14 hours to your destination? Contrary to the belief of many Midwesterners (ourselves included), road trips don’t always have to be quite so lengthy. Find a campground a couple hours away, pack some snacks, and you’re off to the races! As you take in the serene lake views and peaceful sounds of the forest, kick your feet up and crack open a crisp 12 or 19.2 oz can of Midwest IPA. Its Citra, Triumph, Strata, and Cascade hop blend makes the perfect accompaniment for summer nights spent by the campfire, roasting marshmallows and hot dogs. Want to make your camping trip twice as nice? Mix in some Midwest Hazy IPA for campfire singalong levels of hospitality.

Bask in the Sun with Mexican Lager with Lime

When you’re lounging around in the winter, they’ll call you a couch potato. But when you’re lounging around in the summer, you’re sunbathing! Make like an iguana in some sunny rays and get your tan on. Of course, you’ll need some refreshments while you do. Pop on your sunglasses and grab a zesty Mexican Lager with Lime, your current read, and some sunscreen to keep in arm’s reach while you soak up the Vitamin D. Those lizards are onto something!

Hit the Green with Dortmunder Gold Lager

We can see it now: picturesque blue skies, vibrant green grass, golf bags leaning lazily on your cart, a Dortmunder Gold Lager in hand. Practice your swing with pals while you enjoy our classic brew that brings out the winner in all of us. No matter if you thrive at the driving range or the putt-putt course (or as moral support for your buddies), we’ve got a refreshing sipper to accompany you for all 18 holes.

Put Your Records on with Vibacious & Juicy Vibacious Double IPA

There are few combinations as wonderful as good tunes and good brews. But sometimes you don’t feel like navigating concert crowds or finding parking at a venue to listen to your favorite artist. Fuel your impromptu dance party with a 12 or 19.2 oz. can of Vibacious Double IPA, the perfect hoppy yet ridiculously drinkable beer to keep the vibes right. Or bust a move while drinking Juicy Vibacious Double IPA for an extra juicy dose of liquid courage. We hear dancing is proven to boost your serotonin levels, according to the experts. Of course, we have a few of our own areas of expertise: beer and good vibes! Find us at music venues around Cleveland at your next show, too.

Get Fresh with Strawberry Pineapple Wheat

Summer is the season of freshness! What could be a better way to support the fresh food chain than by picking up a bunch of berries from your town’s farmers market? As you browse your community’s selection of hand-picked fruits, locally grown veggies, and homemade delicacies, fill your tote bag to the brim with pints of strawberries (the second best kind of pints).

Once you’re stocked up, throw a strawberry soiree and bake with your berries! Gather your friends to drink Strawberry Pineapple Wheat and whip up a delicious dessert together. (Pssst, we’ll give you a hint: this Strawberry Pineapple Wheat Bundt Cake is decadent and absolutely to die for). Complete your tablescape with fresh local flowers, like these from Greenleaf Floral Co.!

At the GLBC brewpub, you’ll find Strawberry Pineapple Wheat on tap and learn that local food is our jam! Our brewpub menu features a variety of locally sourced seasonal ingredients and a wide range of local growers and vendors, like Oberlin Food Hub and more!

Get Your Game Face on with Cold Rush Premium Light Lager

We don’t know about you, but our friends can get pretty competitive (and honestly, we’re here for it). Why not ramp up the spirit with a little friendly competition, all from the safety of your backyard? Challenge your stamina by hosting summer beer games at your place on a sunny Saturday, featuring events like flip cup, beer die, and everyone’s favorite, beer pong! Winner takes home a heaping cooler full of Cleveland’s crushable Cold Rush Premium Light Lager— the best prize out there!

If drinking games aren’t your speed, host a grill-off! This is a sure-fire way to witness local dads in their element (even more so than curating the perfect lawn stripes). Level up your marinades with our Dortmunder Gold BBQ Sauce for a dash of hickory smokiness and malty notes, or add in the crowd-pleasing Edmund Fitzgerald BBQ Sauce for extra roasted flavor and a spicy kick.

Revisit Summer’s Most Nostalgic Activities with Rocket Pop Hard Seltzer

We’re all just chasing that carefree feeling of a childhood summer. Ice cream melting on the pavement, sidewalk chalk all over our hands and knees, spending our hard-earned cash from a lemonade stand… you get us. Thankfully, it’s easy to tap back into the summers of old with Rocket Pop Hard Seltzer, since its flavor was inspired by our favorite summertime treat. Grab a 6-Pack and indulge in a spontaneous summer adventure, trip to the pool, or pickup beach volleyball game. Rocket Pop pairs well with carnival favorites like funnel cakes, fries, and vanilla ice cream—and it’s perfect in this popsicle refresher cocktail. Who knows? Maybe it will inspire you to fill up your porch cooler and host a grown-up lemonade stand for your neighbors, featuring Rocket Pop and other GLBC summer brews.

No matter how you spend your summer, it’s always better with good friends and great beer. Tag us on Instagram, Facebook, and X when you incorporate Great Lakes into your summer adventures!

12 oz. Can of Mexican Lager with Lime laid upon a bed of lime wheels.

The thirst-quenching refreshment of lime. The pleasant pucker of lemon. The lush, soft depth of pineapple. As humans, we love fruit. We’re wired to. For early humans, fruit was literally a source of life. Our hunter-gather ancestors foraged for fruit to obtain much of their sustenance. So it’s no surprise that we love fruity flavors in beer. From the tropical and stone fruit flavors of modern hops to the pome fruit and banana notes of yeast-derived esters, fruit flavors are all over our favorite craft beer styles.

At times, fruit itself often makes its way into many of these same beers, especially once the warmer weather hits and yearning for juicy refreshers hits its height. So it’s no surprise that we’ve got a veritable grove of fruit-infused brews to cool that patio or beachside heat. Let’s discover how the fruit used in each takes these beverages to the next delicious level.

It’s difficult to think about fruit in beer without jumping right to one of the most iconic (and beachy) combinations: a pale, highly carbonated lager with a wedge of lime squeezed in. Brewed with real lime purée and peel, Mexican Lager with Lime is perfect for the beach, yes, but also for any other laid-back situation you might find yourself in. The gentle acidity and bright aromatics of lime enhance the already satiating character of a well-crafted light lager. Plus, we package our Mexican Lager in cans, which we think are the ideal vessels for sipping alongside sandy waterfronts or shaded backyard gardens, with or without an additional lime wedge.

We all have our favorite beverages, but who doesn’t like switching things up occasionally? Thankfully, our brewers feel the same way, crafting a different fruit wheat beer to suit the season. For those warmer poolside months, the bright, fresh Strawberry Pineapple Wheat dives headfirst into a luscious blend of highly refreshing flavors. Once the leaves turn and the holidays draw nigh, the jam-packed Cran Orange Wheat harvests a satisfying medley of fruit sensations built for cooler days. And both of our fruited wheat beers are brewed with real fruit purée for bursts of quenching flavor in every sip. So whether it’s summer or winter, you’ll have a beverage to match your mood.

There’s nothing better than enjoying a refreshing, fruit-forward beer at the ballpark. That’s why we’ve reimagined the style of a classic GLBC brand, Rally Drum, into Rally Drum Lemon Shandy. Previously brewed as a Premium Lager and Red Ale, Rally Drum’s newest iteration is an homage to all things baseball in Cleveland, and it continues the legacy left by John Adams. By loading our lager base with a hit of sweetness and lemon, we’ve crafted the perfect squeeze play. This seasonal brew that scores big when it comes to flavor.

rally drum cans and 6pack with lemons

Fruit beers are often light and delicate, made for sun-drenched lounging on idyllic afternoons. Juicy Vibacious Double IPA, on the other hand, is a completely different vibe. The newest member of the Vibacious Double IPA family is big in every sense of the word, packing a powerful punch at 9.5% ABV while maintaining big drinkability at just 40 IBUs. Even bigger is the real orange and lemon packed into every drop of those stunning, soundwave-inspired cans (especially when they’re 19.2 oz. Cans!) The citrusy and tropical aromas of Citra and Cashmere hops add an extra-juicy touch to this ridiculously drinkable year-round Double IPA.

If fruit beers are your favorite, you’ll love our newest 12-Pack! Fruit Madness Variety Pack includes three of each of the following, to bring you an array of fresh fruit flavors: Strawberry Pineapple Wheat, Rally Drum Lemon Shandy, Mexican Lager with Lime, and Rocket Pop Hard Seltzer.

UPDATE: Our new menu is now available! Find it here.

With a new season, we are thrilled to announce a brand new dining menu for our iconic Ohio City brewpub!

Executive Chef Christopher Suntala and the GLBC team bring fresh, locally sourced ingredients into the spotlight in a streamlined menu. You’ll find an approachable mix of bar snacks, small plates, and large plates perfect for a variety of diners and occasions. The new menu will be unveiled in early May after a series of soft-open events.

Fresh, Local, Elevated
The new menu will feature a mix of reimagined GLBC classics, along with creative new brew-infused elements and a spotlight on local growers and vendors. Daily specials will allow for the incorporation of even more seasonal and local ingredients. Our brunch menu will also get an update. We will continue our sustainable practices of composting, locally sourcing, and reducing waste and water usage, which earned our brewpub a Surfrider Great Lakes Friendly Certification in 2024.

“Our aim is to bring even better storytelling to this already storied Cleveland institution through our reimagined menu—getting back to honoring our local and sustainable roots. We are focused on diversifying our menu, from plate sizes and prices to satisfying a wider variety of dietary needs and preferences. And of course, I’m excited to use the beer as inspiration. We want each plate and pint to express the absolute best of Cleveland,” says Suntala.

Complementary Brews
We’re leveling up our beverage offerings with even more special releases, including small batch brews featuring local farm-sourced ingredients. For the new menu launch, a hot honey-inspired ale will tap, featuring local honey from our sponsored hives at Ohio City Farm and Frayed Knot Farm. You can always expect a mix of tried-and-true year-round and seasonal favorites alongside innovative brews from experimental IPAs to craft hard seltzers and infusions. Cocktails featuring local spirits, and non-alcoholic options, will round out our beverage menu.

Guest Experience
Along with a new menu, stay tuned for a series of improvements to our historic space, beginning with the eco-friendly indoor-outdoor beer garden which will highlight our sustainability story with gallery walls, photo opps, and greenery. The basement “cellar” bar, host of seasonal pop-ups like our popular Secret Cellar Christmas Bar, will offer a selection of high-end bourbons and additional TVs for viewing sports.

“We love this historic building and we know our many visiting guests and regulars do too,” says General Manager Ashley Likavec. “We also know there are simple ways we can keep our guests more comfortable, engaged, and entertained when they stop in for drinks or a meal. Just as we’ve innovated and evolved our beer offerings over the years, we must do the same with our brewpub to attract new guests and retain what’s already worked well for us over three decades.”
