GLBC's Sumerian Beer in The New York Times

Posted June 18, 2013

Over the past year, our brewers have collaborated with the Oriental Institute at the University of Chicago to develop an authentic Sumerian beer based on the earliest recorded beer "recipe." They've eschewed modern conveniences like stainless steel and automated brewing systems, attempting to brew in the style of our forefathers.

You can read about recent Sumerian beer developments in this New York Times article. Our brewers and lab technicians are still experimenting and working to perfect what we hope is an accurate version of an ancient Sumerian ale.

While we have no plans to bottle our Sumerian beer, we are currently organizing educational events where guests may have the opportunity to sample the beer and learn more about the process. We will share more information as it becomes available.

The photo accompanying this story shows Co-Owner Pat Conway and Lab Technician Nate Gibbon transferring grain between ceramic vessels.
