GLBC Scores Big at 2011 World Beer Championships

Edmund Fitzgerald, Barrel-Aged Blackout Stout and Berlot Score High Honors

January 21, 2011—CLEVELAND, OHIO—Great Lakes Brewing Company (GLBC), Ohio’s most celebrated craft brewer of award-winning lagers and ales, announces that its Edmund Fitzgerald Porter, Barrel-Aged Blackout Stout and Berlot Strong Ale scored gold medals in their individual categories at the 2011 World Beer Championships conducted by the Beverage Testing Institute of Chicago.  Edmund Fitzgerald, available year-round, scored 93 Points in its category “Porter”, giving it a rating of “Exceptional”.  Barrel-Aged Blackout Stout, a GLBC pub exclusive, scored 92 Points in its category “Imperial Stout”, also giving it a rating of “Exceptional”.  The Berlot Strong Ale, a collaboration beer with Cellar Rats Brewery and a GLBC pub exclusive, scored 91 Points and a rating of “Exceptional” in the “Strong Ale” category (click on the “Points” for judging remarks).

Since Great Lakes Brewing Company’s inception in 1988, Edmund Fitzgerald has won seven gold medals and two world champion medals at the World Beer Championships and three gold medals at the Great American Beer Festival.  This award is the first for Barrel-Aged Blackout Stout and Berlot.  The World Beer Championships are considered one of the major beer judging events throughout the world.
