Great Lakes & Lakefront Brewery Present: Beer Friends Hoppy Lager

MILWAUKEE, WI Aug. 3, 2017 – Lakefront Brewery, Inc. and Great Lakes Brewing Co. jointly announce the release of their latest collaboration beer, Beer Friends Hoppy Lager. The breweries will debut the limited, draft-only brew on Aug. 11 at Madison, Wisconsin’s The Rigby Pub & Grill as part of their Great Taste of the Midwest pre-party.

With a reputation for brewing award-winning lagers, Luther Paul and Mark Hunger, head brewers of Lakefront and Great Lakes, respectively, wanted to add a hoppy kick to their style-of-choice. Their desire to brew a hop-forward beer while maintaining the crisp and clean drinkability of a lager led to the perfect late-summer refresher. Using the Great Lakes house lager yeast as the beer’s anchor, heaps of Simcoe, Azacca, Cascade, Mosaic, and Citra hops were added throughout the brewing process to make Beer Friends Hoppy Lager an easy drinking brew supercharged with tropical fruit aromas and flavors.

The inspiration behind the Beer Friends name was more than just bringing ales and lagers together. “Everyone knows beer is best enjoyed with friends,” says Great Lakes’ Communications Supervisor, Marissa DeSantis. “And our friendship with Lakefront goes well beyond our mutual love of brewing. We’re both family-owned, independent breweries that share the same region, anniversary, business philosophy, and desire to give back to our communities.” This isn’t the first time the two breweries have collaborated. Last year Great Lakes and Lakefront brewed All Together Now Hopfenweizen, a hop-forward, German-style wheat beer that debuted at the 2016 Great Taste of the Midwest.

Beer Friends Hoppy Lager will be available while supplies last at Madison’s Rigby Pub & Grill on Friday, August 11, and on tap at Great Lakes and Lakefront’s shared booth at Great Taste of the Midwest on August 12. A limited amount of Beer Friends kegs will be distributed to select locations throughout Lakefront’s and Great Lakes’ distribution markets.
